The origin of vanilla is associated with a species of orchid from Mexico. The fruit is born from it, called pods, from which the name vanilla derives. This denomination comes from the Spanish colonizers by its sheath shape (metallic weapon)However, vanilla was already part of the culture of the ancient Tonacas, who called it Xahanat or black flower. The Aztecs called it Tlixotlil. In these cultures it was used as a flavoring, as an offering to the divinities and as a medicine, for its antiseptic properties.
